Biography

This section describes David's family background and early life, his experiences as a conscientious objector during the Second World War, and how he lived as a teacher and later as a full-time artist.  It describes how his artistic work found expression in his home and family life.

Much of the text relating to his family background and early life was drafted by David’s brother John on the occasion of the Red House memorial exhibition in 1992.  We have also drawn on the tribute written by his friend Peter Stoodley for the Ceramic Review (reproduced here).
